Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS)

 Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS)is a comprehensive training program developed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to manage patients exposed to hazardous materials. This program was created in response to the growing need for healthcare providers to be prepared for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) incidents, which can result in mass casualties and present unique challenges for medical management.

The AHLS program covers a wide range of topics essential for managing hazardous material exposures. These include principles of toxicology, recognition and management of specific chemical exposures, decontamination procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use. Participants in the AHLS course learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of exposure to various hazardous substances, assess and stabilize patients in contaminated environments, and coordinate care with other responders in complex CBRNE incidents.
